Een Os voor een Baby plot
Documentary about girls in Ethiopia who are victims of an age-old tradition that forces girls to marry at a young age. They get pregnant, too young to give birth. The pelvis is simply not mature. The result: an obstetric fistula, continuous loss of urine and therefore often expulsion. In many cases, the baby dies and the young mother develops a fistula. Ayfer Ergün follows Yezina, a young woman who will be operated on in the Fistula Hospital. The couple Yezina and Mesganow live in a small village far from the nearest town. During her first delivery, Yezina loses her child and is abandoned by her husband. With her second husband she loses their baby again. The resulting fistulas caused by this lead to incontinence with all its consequences. The insults from family and the gossip in the community are the reasons that they move to another village. Unlike many men, Mesganow stays with his wife. He wants her to be healed so that they can have a child. To pay for the twenty-hour journey to Addis Ababa and the operation at the Fistula Hospital, he sells his ox.
