Die Königin - Marianne Hoppe plot
The life of Marianne Hoppe, now over ninety, is not entirely undisputed. From 1936 to 1946, when she was married to the actor Gustaf Gründgens, she was an important exponent of Nazi cinema. But that's not what Die Königin is about. Schroeter has friends and (former) colleagues paint a picture of the icon of the German drama, both in film and theater, of the twentieth century. Schroeter alternates these interviews and encounters with fragments from her most important feature films - Romanze in Moll, Capriolen, Der Schritt vom Wege and Effi Briest - and images from her text rehearsals with theater director Einar Schleef.
