"I can't take small bites from the fashion world; that feels like starving myself," said Diana Vreeland. The Empress of Fashion sat on her throne for fifty years in the mid-twentieth century as a columnist and editor-in-chief of the leading fashion magazines Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Through her efforts for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she was able to elevate fashion to an art form. In Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel, Vreeland herself, who died in 1989, looks back on her eventful life, through archive interviews (often recorded in her flowery living room) and the reenacted dialogue between her and writer George Plimpton, who wrote Vreeland's memoirs in 1988. co-wrote. Onderhoudende documentaire over de eccentrieke, invloedrijke hoofdredactrice van de toonaangevende modetijdschriften Harper's Bazaar en Vogue. Ik had wel iets meer te weten willen komen over Vreeland's privé-leven en huwelijk, dat blijft erg beknopt, maar gelukkig zijn het gebruikte archiefmateriaal en de interviewfragmenten levendig en vooral leuk genoeg om dit gemis te compenseren.

Entertaining documentary about the eccentric, influential editor-in-chief of the leading fashion magazines Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. I would have liked to know more about Vreeland's private life and marriage, which remains very brief, but fortunately the archive material and interview fragments used are lively and, above all, fun enough to compensate for this lack.
