Der Ost-Komplex plot

Even now, 25 years after German reunification, historians are still debating whether the GDR was actually an illegitimate state. In his documentary, Jochen Hick tells the story of the former GDR citizen Mario Röllig. Hick accompanies him as he visits his parents and former colleagues. Röllig was arrested in Hungary for attempted flights from the German Democratic Republic. In 1988 the Federal Republic of Germany 'bought' its freedom. Today he regularly talks about his experiences in schools. He also volunteers as a guide in the former Stasi prison Hohenschönhausen in Berlin, which is now a monument.
