De Zilveren Pijl plot

Portrait of the East German cyclist Detlef Macha. For years, Detlef Macha was a jewel of GDR sports culture. In total, he became world track pursuit champion five times. After the reunification of Germany, Macha went from being a celebrated champion to an anonymous citizen. Private circumstances, as well as his social downfall, ultimately drove him to commit suicide in 1994 at the age of 35. Through conversations with Macha's parents, trainers, friends, and colleagues, the film attempts to map out his life, and in particular the factors that played a role in his tragic death.
