De Vrouw met het Masker plot

Documentary about the life of the Habsburg queen Maria of Hungary (1505-1558). Mary of Hungary played an important role in the politics of her time. Her marriage to the Hungarian Crown Prince Lájos marked the beginning of the Danube monarchy. After her husband's death, Maria was appointed regent of the Netherlands. This task was difficult for her, but she learned quickly. She knew how to curb rebellions, wage wars and mediate between quarreling relatives. After a family dispute, the Habsburg Empire split into two parts. Maria abdicated and went to Spain where she died in 1558.
