De Toekomst Is over een Uur plot

The protagonist is Salvador Vega, a gypsy whose whole life is defined by the fact that he was put behind bars by the Franco regime as an eighteen-year-old for alleged drug trafficking. When he was released, his Irish wife and their son were gone. For years he roamed Europe in search of them, until he found out that it was his wife's brothers who had betrayed him at the time. Today he is a blacksmith in Seville, in a working-class neighborhood that is a last refuge for many gypsies like Salvador.
