De Oogst van de Stilte plot
Documentary about the influence of the Cultural Revolution on music and everyday life in China. The focus is on five Chinese composers who, brought up during Mao's Cultural Revolution, only came into contact with Western classical music, which was described as anti-revolutionary, towards the end of the 1970s. In 1979 the five belonged to the limited number of chosen ones who were admitted to the recently opened conservatory in Beijing. After their studies, four of the five composers moved to the west and steadily conquered the music stages there. In the wake of the composers, the film jumps back and forth between their country of origin and their current hometowns of New York and Paris. Subjects: communism, concerts, music, training, orchestras.
