De Onverboden Stad plot

In Beijing, a small alley has gotten stuck in time. Its inhabitants are caught between the advance of innovation and life as they have always lived it. An existence full of uncertainty, but also with hope and expectation. Filmmaker Floris-Jan van Luyn returns to the alley where he lived in the 1990s when he was a correspondent for NRC Handelsblad. In De Onverboden Stad, his old neighbors tell their story about a life in which no one knows what tomorrow will bring. When will the old alley be demolished? Can residents stay or can they leave? And is one better than the other? The answers are out there - as long as it lasts - because no one knows how long it will be there.
