Daughter from Danang plot

In 1975, at the end of the Vietnam War, Operation Babylift was launched, in which more than 2,000 Vietnamese children of unknown American fathers were adopted into the United States. It was a last-ditch effort to arouse sympathy for the disastrous Vietnam War, according to a journalist. Tragically, one of the planes crashed, killing a hundred children. One of the children who survived the crossing was Hiep. She found shelter with a single mother in Tennessee, was renamed Heidi, raised as American as possible, and was never allowed to talk about her heritage. After 22 years, the adopted child goes looking for her Vietnamese mother. There is no question of a blissful reunion; the culture clash turns out to be bigger than the mother-daughter bond.
