Dar Jostojouy-e Shahrzad plot
Just days after the Islamic revolution of February 11, 1979, 'capitalist' television advertising was banned in Iran. Since then, the freedom of advertisers has increased step by step, but the restrictions are still great. At the end of the eight-year war between Iran and Iraq, banks and insurance companies were allowed to advertise on television. Director Safi Yazdanian shows the development with a lot of humor and funny asides, and interviews modern, usually frustrated, advertisers. The recurring topic is censorship and the accompanying self-censorship. Meanwhile, Yazdanian continues to search for Sherazade, or the woman in the television commercial. At first she was not allowed to appear at all, which forced the commercial filmmakers to come up with creative solutions.
