Dance to the Music plot
Report of the long search that Zwollenaar Willem Alkema made for the missing funk pioneer Sly Stone. The band Sly and the Family Stone is one of the big names at the Woodstock festival in 1969. They score big hits with songs like 'Dance to the Music' and 'Family Affair'. Sly Stone was a celebrity comparable to Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. The only difference: Sly didn't die, but disappeared. This fact took on mythical proportions. In America, TV stations were willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars for an interview. Willem Alkema took the plunge and also went in search of this forgotten hero. In 2005, he found the recluse of funk. Sly lived on a mountain in a cul-de-sac but refused any contact.
