Dad or a Life plot

Classic road movie with a contemporary problem: how do you make contact with a father who prefers to stay out of harm's way? The awkward pun in the title is exactly how main character Sandra Van Slooten feels. When the daughter of a German mother and American father receives a letter from her father for the first time in seventeen years, she decides to visit him. He lives in a campervan on an Indian reservation near the Mexican border. But when she arrives there, it turns out that he has traveled to Seattle. What to do? She decides to start the long journey north, visiting her Mormon relatives and her father's friends along the way.
