Comme Si Nous Attrapions un Cobra plot
In response to the commotion about the Danish Mohammed cartoons, Syrian filmmaker Hala Alabdalla interviews political cartoonists in Egypt and Syria about the tensions their work entails. What started as a documentary about cartoons in the Middle East takes a different turn when the Arab Spring takes place in both countries. From her studio in Paris, Alabdalla provides additional voice-over commentary on the events that took place. The various cartoonists talk extensively about their work, their choices and their considerations and show cartoons that they were not allowed to publish. Various artists and cartoonists talk about the tradition of political illustrations, their fight against censorship and the fight for irony and rebellion within the authoritarian regimes.
