Coma plot
In television shows like Jackass, dangerous behavior is fun and tough. But it is estimated that between five and seven hundred Dutch young people between the ages of fifteen and twenty fall into a coma every year, often due to reckless behaviour. Here the harsh reality of the possible consequences is shown. As the Tilburg Rehabilitation Center Leijpark always tells family of patients: they will come out with damage no matter what. Roelofs follows the intensive treatment of Mario and Marc, who have a wake-sleep rhythm, but are not aware of anything else. By talking to them, stimulating them with smells, sounds or pain stimuli, one tries to reactivate their brain functions. It is impossible to predict whether it works and where a patient's ceiling lies. The touching, candid relatives hold on to every reaction they see - sometimes against their better judgement.
