Cesare Pavese, een Man Alleen plot

The authorship of the Italian author Cesare Pavese (1908-1950) is characterized by a strong autobiographical character. Imagination and reality are closely linked in his books. With recurring themes like the loss of youth, the loss of a loved one, or the loneliness of an outsider, Pavese hinted that he had not mastered the craft of living. In 1950 he committed suicide. The documentary gives a picture of Pavese's life. Four visualized quotes highlight a number of aspects that had a major influence on his life and work: his sense of 'freedom' in the countryside versus the 'captivity' in his home and workplace Turin; his relationship with America; his convulsive work discipline versus indecision in love and political decisiveness and finally, Pavese's art of dying.
