Carlitos Medellin plot
Carlitos is thirteen and lives in Santo Domingo in the most violent neighborhood in the most violent city in Colombia, Medellin. The neighborhood is terrorized by a paramilitary organization fighting in the war against the rebel army FARC. In a voice-over, Carlitos reads a letter he has written to Saint Mary. He has the idea, he says, to visit the inhabitants of Santo Domingo with her (in the form of a statue of Mary) to share their suffering with them. The camera follows Carlitos, who visits the people of Medellin with the statue on his shoulder. They address emotional monologues to the statue of Mary about weapons, peace, retribution and forgiveness.
