Calle 54 plot
Calle 54 is an open declaration of love for Latin Jazz, the music that - according to filmmaker Fernando Trueba - allows me to enjoy life as nothing else can. Trueba takes us on a musical journey from the Bronx via Cuba to Brazil and from Argentina via Santo Domingo to Andalusia. He shows us how this jazz tells stories, protests, seduces and above all radiates a zest for life. The film is a mix of sound and images, styles and rhythms - from samba to cumbia and flamenco. Trueba sought out the best Latin jazz artists at home for a short portrait and then had them perform at the Sony Music Studios on 54th street in New York (hence the title of the film: Calle is Spanish for street).
