Burden of Peace plot
"One woman fighting crime and corruption in a country haunted by its past"
How do you bring peace and security to a small country where more than 20 people are killed every day? Guatemala is a paradise for murderers, thieves and rapists. Almost never anyone is arrested, let alone convicted. Burden of Peace is the impressive story of Claudia Paz y Paz, the first woman at the head of the Public Prosecution Service, who fights drug gangs, corruption and impunity. In 2010, Paz y Paz is appointed as Attorney General at the Public Prosecution Service. She sees it as her mission to end corruption and lawlessness in her country. She does not limit herself to the criminal practices of today, but also investigates the misdeeds during the civil war (1960-1996), in which 200,000 Maya Indians were murdered by the army.
