Bridges of Time plot
In the 1960s, the cinema of the Baltic States, then still part of the Soviet Union, had its own nouvelle vague. Directors such as Herz Frank, Uldis Brauns, Ivars Seleckis, Mark Soosaar, Andres Sööt, Robertas Verba, Henrikas Šablevičius and Aivars Freimanis made an international name for themselves with poetic documentaries in which life and people were central. With their strong visual and metaphorical approach, these makers turned away from the propagandistic, official film language. In Bridges of Time, these film makers – if they are still alive – are sought out. Fragments from their work are contrasted with images from the present; a number of main characters from that time have been traced.
