Within the diverse ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, mysticism, magic and religion have always been important. Due to influences from the Middle East, Turkey and the West, much attention was paid to herbal medicine in Bosnia. The Bosnians also believe that people's illnesses can be used to infer the state of society, and in the aftermath of the war, the country is trying to heal itself from trauma. People have been driven from their homes, have lost family, are depressed, desperate and uprooted. And the new politics causes alienation and loss of familiar values.
