Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids plot
The most stigmatized people in Sonagachi, Calcutta's 'red light district', are not the prostitutes but their children. In the midst of poverty, abuse and despair, these children have little chance of escaping their mother's fate or of changing their lives. In "Born into Brothels", Zana Briski and Ross Kaufmann capture the amazing change the children undergo after coming into contact with Zana Briski. As a professional photographer she spends years with them and teaches them how to use a camera. The photos the children take not only testify to a remarkable observation and a special talent.
