The 1970s and 1980s saw a new wind blowing through the New York art scene, and Robert Mapplethorpe was one of the highlights. He was encouraged by the innovative museum curator Sam Wagstaff to show the world his controversial work. In return, Mapplethorpe brought the 25-year-older Flagstaff into the world of drugs and gay SM sex. This documentary highlights the relationship between the two men as well as their affinity with singer/poet Patti Smith.
