What is life like for the new black middle class in South Africa? In 'Black Diamonds' Saskia Vredeveld paints a portrait of the new black South African middle class. Multimillionaire Felicia is an entrepreneur who works and lives in South Africa and the United States. She is seen as a role model by the young people; a black girl from Soweto who has successfully made her dream come true. Millionaire Richard is assimilated and lives in a predominantly white gated community. The government's policy of affirmative action has made him a businessman of prestige and wealth. Real estate millionaire-to-be Vusi has worked his way up from a street boy to a man with possessions who prefers to stay in Soweto. How do they live as the newly rich in South Africa?
