Bevrijding of Merdeka plot
Battalion Zeeland was the first Dutch post-war battalion, founded from the resistance by Prince Bernhard in the last year of the war 1944 to liberate the Northern Netherlands. When Germany capitulated, the young men were sent to Indonesia on the same contract. It was 2.5 heavy tropical years. The full-length documentary 'Liberation of Merdeka' tells the story of the impressive, emotional and diverse experiences of seven members of Battalion Zeeland, and the widow of one member. The testimonies show that the men thought the country was beautiful and exotic, but that every war is horrific and unintentionally presents those involved with major personal dilemmas.
