Between Life and Death plot
Documentary by Nick Holt about ethical dilemmas in medical techniques that can keep patients with severe brain damage alive. Specialists and surgeons from the neurology department at Addenbooke's Hospital in Cambridge were followed for six months. They specialize in brain injuries. The doctors there can delay, postpone or even reverse the dying process. They have managed to communicate with patients in a 'vegetative' state for the first time. This has far-reaching consequences for those patients and for their families. For example, there is a man, who can only communicate through eye movements, who has to decide whether he wants to continue living. Other families are also confronted with ethical dilemmas as a result of these medical breakthroughs.
