Berlin zur Kaiserzeit - Glanz und Schatten einer Epoche plot
The film shows the changes and developments in the city of Berlin in the years before the First World War with the introduction of technology, education, art, urban planning and politics. The last part of the film sketches the war years 1914-1918, in which the Berliners see their enthusiasm turn into hunger and misery. The documentary then concludes with the deposition of the emperor and the installation of the Republic. Berlin zur Kaiserzeit contains, in addition to familiar images, a wealth of hitherto unpublished footage of daily life in the big city, the famine, Karl Liebknecht at the proclamation of the socialist republic and much more.
