Beijing: Er Huan Lu plot
Video document capturing the flow of traffic in both directions on the 33 bridges of Beijing's second ring road. The maker has recorded one minute per direction of travel on each bridge. The whole work consists of 66 parts and thus lasts 1 hour and 6 minutes. Unlike Beijing: The Third Ring, which was shot entirely on sunny days, Beijing: The Second Ring was shot in its entirety on cloudy days. As in the video film Chang'an Boulevard, there is little variation in the images. The film focuses mainly on pure observation and the passage of time. The rings, an essential part of Beijing's infrastructure, determine the entire spatial planning of the complex urban fabric. The film documents the historical aspects and modern developments of the city, its 13 million inhabitants, the mass displacements and the urban reality that define Beijing.
