Beauty beneath the Dirt plot

Three young city dwellers embark on a 3,000-mile trek through the Appalachian Mountains. The journey takes them from Georgia to Maine, passing through some of the most pristine national parks in the United States. A lot of people preceded them, but only a small part of them managed to complete the challenge. In addition to showing the journey, this documentary shows what the journey does to the individuals. Personal stories of romance, betrayal, love and fidelity paint a picture of how such a challenge can strengthen and destroy the soul.
