Documentary about singer/songwriter Townes van Zandt, who is regarded as the idol of many famous musicians, while avoiding any commercial success himself. The film tells of his childhood, when the introverted Van Zandt always had to travel with his father, an oil magnate, and the horrific period when he had to undergo shock therapy because he jumped from a high building. Several artists and connoisseurs of his work discuss these and more highs and lows of his life, in relation to his widely acclaimed songs.
