Bastion of Sin plot
As a religious Muslim, Aysel has lived a secluded life as a mother and housewife in the provincial south of Germany for years. When she learns that the Stuttgart State Theater is looking for amateur actresses to perform Medea, Aysel sees this as an opportunity to escape from her everyday life. And so she auditions. What seems like a small change in her daily existence turns out to be quite a change in her outlook on life. During the preparations, Aysel is confronted with tragic life stories of other Muslim women whom she only knew from hearsay. She is the only woman to wear a headscarf and has to defend her positions tooth and nail against the other, more modern Turkish women. Torn between her desire for freedom and her own traditions, Aysel finds herself mired in a conflict with her faith and forced to question the life she has led thus far.
