Basquiat: Rage to Riches plot
Jean-Michel Basquiat died of an overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. In previous years, the young black artist had made a dizzying career in the New York art world with the support of gallery owners like Anina Nosei and Larry Gagosian. Within a few years, his work sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Basquiat, meanwhile, remained a tormented soul, who could express himself in his art, but who also increasingly sought refuge in drugs.
