In 1952 the young literature professor Aage Hendrixen meets the then 66-year-old writer Karen Blixen. From that moment on, a complicated friendship develops, which takes on bizarre forms over the years and has a huge impact on the life of married Aage. In public, Blixen, who became best known for her later filmed novel Out of Africa, calls herself a storyteller. But to intimates she is the 'devil's mistress'. Her life is full of dark aspects, which fascinates Aage so much that he ends up in the supernatural world himself.
