Aragon: Le Roman de Matisse plot
Aragon first met Matisse in December 1941 at his Palais Regina in Nice. The two men saw each other almost daily for two years after that. In 1970 Aragon published the book Matisse, a novel, “a thick but pure book”. The film returns to the meeting of the two greats of French culture, through the beautiful stories of Aragon and the great drawings and paintings of Matisse. During the occupation and the tragedy of the war, Aragon felt that Matisse represented “French freedom unlike any other”. “In the moments when France was humiliated, Matisse painted the French glory. He is the painter of everlasting faith.”
