American Gypsy: A Stranger in Everybody's Land plot
When police raided the home of Spokane resident Grover Marks on June 10, 1986, they found over a million dollars in cash and a large amount of precious gold jewelry. Grover was furious, his honor tarnished, the police action motivated by xenophobia and racism. For his son Jimmy, the event was the reason to actively campaign for the civil rights of the Roma in the United States. However, according to police, Marks was a gypsy king who ran a crime organization. This documentary unravels the history and culture of the Roma and the prejudices that have arisen over the centuries about their way of life.
