Als Wir die Zukunft Waren plot

Documentary in which seven filmmakers from the former GDR review memories from their own childhood and youth. These seven are Lars Barthel, Andreas Voigt, Gabriele Denecke, Peter Kahane, Hannes Schönemann, Thomas Knauf and Ralf Marschalleck, who were all trained at the film academy in Potsdam-Babelsberg and who all worked for the DEFA studios. With a description of their personal experiences and memories, which are very differently colored and depending on the family background, they show the life of young people in East Germany in the 1950s and 60s.
