Alles Wat Klinkt plot
Documentary about the Dutch jazz musician and composer Theo Loevendie. All his life, Theo Loevendie wanted to devote a piece of music to the life and work of the seventeenth-century philosopher Baruch Spinoza. Loevendie read it for the first time as a teenager. He didn't understand everything, but 'it made sense with my own ideas about freedom of expression, among other things'. Again and again he rejected the idea, because 'what do you do, the special thing about Spinoza is in his head, in his thoughts, and in opera it is murder and manslaughter'. In recent years, Loevendie has worked tirelessly on his composition in his study, a stone's throw from the Concertgebouw. On 11 October 2014, the world premiere of the opera The Rise of Spinoza took place in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Groot Omroepkoor, together with five soloists, brought the expressive and still topical story about freedom on stage.
