Alles Komt Ergens Van plot
Gerard Thoolen, one of the greatest Dutch actors of the past decades, died in 1996. His part in the theater collective Het Werktheater is especially praised. His roles in films that were based on performances by Het Werktheater, such as Toestands (1976), Opname (1979) and Een sulele Zomeravond (1982), with Thoolen as the pleasant Surinamese Mrs. Emanuels, are also highly praised. Thoolen might be praised as an actor, but as a person he turned out to be powerless to avoid his tragic life. Filmmaker Pieter Verhoeff, who directed Thoolen in his feature films The Sign of the Beast (1980) and Spoken of Happiness (1987), portrays him in Everything comes from somewhere. During a festive meal with family, friends and colleagues, an image is sketched of the actor and the person Gerard Thoolen on the basis of interviews, image fragments, photos, letters and personal contributions from those present.
