Ailey plot
Alvin Ailey was an American dancer and choreographer who founded the world-famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1958. He conquered the ballet and dance world with African-American choreographies and compositions. The dance company is now under the artistic direction of Robert Battle and honored its founder in 2020 by having hip-hop dancer Rennie Harris create a choreography about his life. That piece is the starting point for Jamila Wignot's documentary in which we see how Ailey, as a Texas country boy, fell in love with modern dance and then became America's most important choreographer.
