Afghanistan 1979 plot

The intervention of Soviet troops in Afghanistan was one of the most profound and pivotal events in the history of the twentieth century. It marked the beginning of Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, among other things. The Soviet troops invaded Afghanistan in 1979. That immediately meant a war that would change the world. It was the last conflict in the Cold War and the first in a long war that is all but over. This documentary focuses specifically on the events on the side of the Soviets, using classified archive material and testimonies from all sides. Mikhail Gorbachev, among others, speaks for the first time about the invasion of Afghanistan. This documentary offers an unprecedented insight into this part of history: how could such a confrontational standoff between the Islamic and Western worlds take place?
