A Thousand Fires plot

With bare hands, the couple Htwe Tin and Thein Shwe extract oil from the ground near their house, from a self-built well. There are many of these makeshift oil fields in Myanmar, where people have traded growing crops for pumping their own oil from the ground and selling it. The documentary offers a glimpse into an unusual existence; the grueling work, the afternoon naps, but also the visits to a fortune teller who predicts the couple's future.
