A Frown Gone Mad plot
Botox, Revolax, Sculptra, Hyaron, Juvederm: all sorts of substances – perhaps not always legal – sell like hot cakes in Bouba’s Lebanese beauty salon. Skillfully, but not always very gently, she injects an endless series of clients with all sorts of injectables: substances that temporarily reduce wrinkles, lines and frown lines in the face. Director Omar Mismar focuses his camera from a fixed position on the patients who take a seat on a white treatment table wrapped in plastic wrap. Young and old, women and men, from housewives to hip influencers: the entire country voluntarily undergoes the painful and bloody treatment, which is shown in close-up.
