"In a world of secrets, the truth is never what it seems."
Veteran Inspector Victor Benezet asks his old friend Henry Hearst to come to the police station to clarify the investigation of a murder case. Hearst, a respected lawyer, doesn't like it because he's expected at a charity ball. Benezet, however, insists. At first it seems to be a routine matter, but it soon becomes apparent that Hearst's statement about how he found the body of a strangled girl is untrue. In addition, Benezet and his young colleague Owens can link the lawyer to another murder of a young girl. The conversation turns into an interrogation, and as Hearst changes his statement and more and more bizarre details from his private life surface, Benezet becomes convinced that his friend is a child murderer...
