Too Many Winners plot

"SHAYNE'S BETTING HIS LIFE ON A SURE THING!"

Private detective Michael Shayne accepts an assignment to track down a gang printing fake horse race tickets. Michael's secretary Phyllis Hamilton isn't happy about that. She wants him to go on vacation with her. Shayne comes into contact with Mayme Martin, who wants to offer him information about the illegal printers. Michael sends his friend Tim Rourke to get that information, but Tim comes across Police Inspector Rafferty because Mayme has been murdered. Shayne, meanwhile, heads to the racetrack to meet operators Jim Payson and Al Hardeman. However, Michael is attacked by the criminals Joe and Punk at the horse racing track and he is injured. A little later Michael finds out the illegal printers Gil Madden and his foreman Ben Edwards and he thinks he has solved the case, but then the message comes that both have been murdered.
