Exciting, dark thriller that is clearly made on the Scandinavian model. It is very reminiscent of eg The Killing and Män som hatar kvinnor.

I like that atmosphere. The cinematography is very good and the music provides the necessary tension.

I haven't read the book so I can't judge which one is better, but I didn't like the movie at all. I don't understand the very bad review. Perhaps the trailer gave a somewhat wrong picture and that people expected more (American) horror, then I understand that this is a slow film. The playing time of 2 hours is also short to really deepen all the characters, I thought it was enough. The Killing does it in 13 episodes, which is of course a difference. Still, The Snowman has a good story and you are put on the wrong foot here and there. I wish there were more thrillers like this!

The biggest mystery of this Nordic-noir thriller is how a film with a lot of talent in front of and behind the camera could still fail. The answer may have to be sought in the fact that they wanted to convert a 600-page book into a two-hour film. It is clear to see that they have been messing around there: the film shows quite a few plot holes, contains unfinished side stories and the whole thing hangs together in bits and pieces. As a result, the film is not always easy to follow. You must have noticed this yourself, because the film was reworked several times, causing the release to be postponed several times. Always a wimpy sign.

Nevertheless, it was not possible to get tension or atmosphere in 'The Snowman', so they went to the premiere with the best possible. The result was an avalanche of bad reviews and the plan for a franchise was immediately shelved.
