The Playbirds plot
"Mary Millington joins the Blue Squad and blows her cover!"
Sexy cop Lucy Sheridan goes undercover to apprehend a pathological killer who's after gorgeous centerfolds from the Playbirds nude magazine. She soon ends up in bed with the magazine's publisher, Harry Dougan, and gets deeper and deeper into the world of pornography. Her superiors try to keep a grip on the situation, but time is running out and Lucy is in danger of being exposed.

A remarkable film from the late 1970s, in which the liberal ideology regarding sex is clearly evident. The combination of women's freedom coupled with strong patriarchy, including independence and abortion, is surrounded by the shadowy world of the sex magazine industry, where a murderer is at large. The film itself typifies the transformation that took place in the erotic film industry at that time. The script is well-conceived, but rather shaky. Edwards and Campbell deliver decent performances. It's funny that Davies of "Ain't Half Hot Mum" makes an appearance here. Millington is a beautiful presence. There's plenty of nudity, which is sometimes inappropriate, given the themes and the rather quirky photographer. Quite 'camp' 3*
