The Man Who Found Himself plot
Young grocery clerk James Clarke robs his employers to provide medical care for his sick sister. She dies, and a colleague of Clarke's discovers his theft and blackmails him. Both are eventually discovered, prosecuted, and sent to prison. Through a series of coincidences, James Clarke escapes from prison, gets a job, earns an honest living, and wins the love of a girl whose life he saved. After serving his full sentence, his fellow thief, Payton, discovers Clarke and blackmails him again, attacking the happiness of his fiancée and her brother and challenging Clarke.
