The Magician plot
In the early 1980s, England was ravaged by a series of IRA bombings. But at the same time there is an even bigger problem for Scotland Yard: a growing flow of counterfeit notes, which are almost indistinguishable from genuine ones. Things take off when David Katz, an American businessman temporarily stationed in London, is offered by a taxi driver to buy counterfeit notes. Katz warns the police, who ask him to play the game in order to get to the counterfeiter's brain, 'the magician'. Katz does so with such dedication, neglecting his business and his family, that the police are beginning to wonder what drives the man.
