The Double Room Mystery plot

William Newman, a notoriously shy lawyer, agrees to take on the case of Morris, a man convicted of stealing the jewels, in exchange for a share of the jewels. After obtaining possession of the gems, Newman appropriates them all and then refuses to carry out his part of the deal. Newman, attracted to Georgianna, a maid at his boarding house, then accuses her of theft and arranges her release, making himself appear to be her savior.
