The Child and the Killer plot

US Army Captain Joe Marsh is on the run in England after committing a murder. He takes shelter in the house of the widow Peggy Martin and her son Tommy and takes the family hostage. When the situation for the Martins becomes untenable, Joe forces Tommy to lead him through a remote wetland area in the English countryside. Joe and Tommy form a hesitant friendship during the escape route, but then Joe reveals his true nature when both are discovered.
